There has been a lot go on in the month of August. To start with and maybe to end with. Alright, we'll focus on the biggest change that everyone is talking about. On August 5th a federal judge basically deregulated the purchase of suppressors, short barrel rifles and short barrel shotguns. The judge gave the DOJ seven days to appeal his decision and August 12th was day seven. There was no appeal. Now, this does not apply to everyone at this point. Continue reading for more details.
Now, before you get too excited, you need to remember that states may have their own laws about these items. You'll need to check and see what your state says about each of them.
I live in Nebraska and from what I've read, we shouldn't have any problem buying suppressors. I have seen short barrel rifles and short barrel shotguns in Nebraska law so you'll have to keep that in mind. I have not seen any regulations in Nebraska Law about suppressors though. Make sure and check with your state legislature or a local attorney to find out what you can and cannot do in your state. I am not an attorney and cannot give legal advice so if you are unsure, contact someone who can give legal advice.
It is my understanding that the deregulating of these items is for the plaintiffs involved in the law suite that the judge ruled on along with their members and the GOA is one of them. I will leave a link in this email so you can join the GOA if you are not a member. They fight for gun owners rights and they, along with a number of other organizations, did just that. I am a member of the GOA and I believe that everyone who owns a firearm, believes in the second amendment or any other right granted us in the constitution should be a member of at least one of these organizations that fight for our rights.
